Well . . . .I'm trying out a little stint as a full-time working mom. A lot of things were enticing about taking this job, the first being that I would be working at my kids' school. I'm really enjoying myself, but probably because I know its temporary (about 4 1/2 weeks total). Here are some the things that I'm really liking about this job.
I am able to be close to my kids in little spurts of time during the day. Reese is often giving me a quick hug in the hall or I see him across the way and give him a little wave. The other day I overheard him and three of his buddies at their lockers having a conversation about reading the Magic Tree House books. Reese had brought one to school and he was pumped about talking about it. It was hilarious listening to four little first graders talking about the plot of a book like they were in a book club. So cute!! I also got to watch Reese at recess today. He plays right outside my window. It is marvelous getting to be that "fly on the wall" and seeing him interact with his peers. He has his moments as all kids do, but I'm loving the person he is becoming. He is interesting, kind, funny, passionate, creative, and smart. I love being with him.
I get to take two little walks with Emma (just Emma and me) from the big school to her building. Its a nice time that we look forward to each morning. The other morning when the weather was kind of yucky I asked if she wanted me to drive her and she responded that "No, I like walking with you mommy." I like it too. She also has to come into my room for a little while until its time for her class to start. She loves being a part of anything I do.
Third, I have always enjoyed being a speech language pathologist. I enjoy the science behind the therapy. I enjoy working with kids. I am a data nerd, so I love keeping data on the kids and tracking their progress. I enjoy working with kids of all kinds of different needs: cerebral palsy, autism, Down's, apraxia, etc. I find it all interesting and it challenges me. Also, I think its good for my kids to see me helping others, and to know that we need to use our time unselfishly to help others-- that my world does not revolve totally around them.
Lastly, I'm getting to know a lot of great people. Its fun to work as team and to feel a part of something.
That being said, hands down my favorite job in the whole wide world is being a stay-at-home mom. I will be one again. I have done it for the last seven years without a single regret. I know I won't regret this short stint in the working world either. It has been good for me and good for us.
If I'm totally honest, my house has seen better days and I hate all the paperwork . . . . but you take the good with the bad and right now its good!!! Thanks for the prayers as we transition to this new endeavor for at least a little while.
It is good to see you there when I am working there. I love subbing at East Dale. I told Josh when I got home Friday that if I knew I could get a permanent job at East Dale, it would definitely entice me to go back and get my master's degree, so that I could get my teaching certificate.
